Help Needed In Setting Up Voip

Recommended Posts

Hi Friends,

I want to setup www.sipgate.co.uk for my PC in India (to get a UK landline number).

But till now it has not worked.

Can some one please try this and tell me if this works

If it does not work with the default X-Lite client which sipgate provides please download

Express Talk softphone from http://www.nch.com.au/talk/ and try to configure this.

I am still baffled why this is not working from India

Would greatly appreciate any help :D:P:Riendo:

I guess Deepu managed to make it work from his home connection. It allows his parents in Kerala to make calls to his phone in the UK ! I'll ask him to update with an explanation :confuse:

hi,

At my home in Trivandrum I am having a Tataindicom broadband connection.

Basically its behind a router. But setting up STUN should avoid the problem with ports.

There is no firewall on the PC

actaully i tried with two service providers

1- sipgate.co.uk - This one works fine for me here in UK. I exported the registry files and send it back home and set up the same there. But it did not work in India.

2- sipdiscount.com - Allows free calls to UK landline. This one worked perfectly

But it is sipgate.co.uk which I wanted to work because then the PC will get a UK landline number and I can call them any time. I think they are blocking the ip address from India.

I had also planned to buy "Linksys PAP2" and set it up there if this worked.

Now since its not working, I have dropped that plan.

For Sipgate after setting up ExpressTalk, if you dial 10000 it should reply back "Welcome to SIPGATE....."

But this is not happening...

For me in UK this works correctly.

I even sat with Arun and tried this as he is also having tata indicom connection. but did not work out.

People tell me that Vonage works fine in India. But its costly when compared to sipgate

Could be a possibility that sipgate block other ip address becoz you might be using there geographical numbers which are for uk based visitors. Also they assign only non-geographical numbers to non-Uk visitors.

I would recommend you to use voipuser.org (they give give you a diff range of 0845 numbers in which you get i outgoing min free for every incoming min of call). Also you could try sipgate.com they have common gateway numbers(geographical) which anyone

who wanna call you could dial(from uk) and then enter your extension number at prompt(Its a two step dialling).

I am currently using PAP2 with voipdiscount.com(for outgoing to NZ) and bbpglobal.com(recieving incoming from NZ) through my mtnl connection and its working fine.

hi deepu

i use voipcheap.com to make free calls to us (land & mobile) uk landline and many more countires for free unlimited minutes with a service charge of only 10 euros for 60 days.

u can setup ur voipcheap account in linksys pap2 , so that they can call ur landphone in uk . only thing is that it doesnt offer phone number. so only calling from inida is posible and its free to uk landline number. i hv tried with bsnl and airtel broadband both worked pefectly with linksys pap2.

im using it to call my freinds in US ,uk and austraila for the past 4 months.

I think You can make it work by setting up the IP of PAP2 as DMZ in router.
