krazee 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 I'm not very sure about this but according to the info I collected from the net, R-UIM cards, supposedly, can be used in GSM handsets such as Nokia 66xx etc. I am REALLY excited to know about this. Now if the RUIM cards can be used for international roaming on GSM phones then could it not be used on GSM phones in the local network? Because it really could come in handy for me for various reasons. Basically that I can get my friends to use reliance who are unwilling to go for reliance since they cannot change the handsets. I peaked in american forums, those people seem to use the cards in GSM phones. I think that GSM handset will only pick up the GSM frequencies. But I'm really interested in knowing whether it can catch the CDMA frequencies and give me access to my reliance number from my airtel handset : nokia 6680. I'm a noob, and I need help. So please, enlighten me.

ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted September 20, 2006 GSM handsets will not accept the RUIM - the RUIM on some handsets will show u a Intl roaming [R]. when u travel on intl. roaming u are given an actual GSM SIM CARD from reliance - and not a RUIM Card!!! (ps : after a darn hefty deposit!) secondly in USA there is no CDMA player using RUIM gotcha!!!
kshah 452 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 RUIM or SIM card contains data like PRL in CDMA handsets. So putting indian RUIM GSM handset in India will not register to any network because it does not have PRL like data. No handset can catch network of other technology except for dual technology handsets.
siva1983in 1 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Whatever happens, u cannot use reliance cdma network in ur GSM phone.. May be if reliance has an agreement with local gsm networks(***Highely unlikely***), the ruim may work in ur gsm phone.. but u have to log on to airtel or hutch or other gsm networks.. definitely not reliance cdma.. After all RUIM is like a sim card.. it can store whatever data needed.. So if reliance has an agreement with airtel (***Highely unlikely***), if u put reliance ruim in a gsm phone, may be v can use airtel network.. but not reliance cdma

My sister will get a 6265 and then i'll get her 6255... both RUIM capable. Can I just go to the webworld and ask for RUIM cards? Will they give it to me just like that?
