Dual Core: The Dual Core benefit will come for users who multitask. As in a dual processor system there is a second processor core to share the load either in balanced form or by itself. If one processor is busy burning a DVD then the second is available to maybe play a game/music. The point is there are now two pairs of processor hands to execute multiple tasks simultaneously.

For the home enthusiast it mean less processor hiccups while playing DOOM III and, at the same time, burning a DVD or listening to music.

They basically have 2 proccessors in one chip. but that doesnt mean they are twice as fast. they will normally run 1.3-1.7 times faster than a standard CPU, wich is still very good.

So if you can stretch ur budget a little more, my suggestion is go for a Dual Core processor instead of a single core processor... :(

Yes, go for a Dual Core processor. Intel's Core 2 Duo is the buzz now.

In the organisation i work currently, we use AMD Processors! Its certainly better than the Intel ones. I say this because we have customers who have both and we can see the difference. I'd recommend an AMD over an Intel provided you have enough cooling facilities (AC) in the room. Infact for that matter, even with Intel Duo Core u'd require cooling facilities. Faster the processor, more the heat dissipation. So cooling would also be essential for these high end gadgets.

We are currently looking at the AMD Turion Processors (ACER Ferrari series) Notebooks. Check them out!

I've never used an AMD processor...but i feel they are better for enthusiasts and people who really know their hardware well. Intel scores in the general category because they come out with integrated solutions (ie processors and motherboards)

Anyway i currently own a HP pavilion dv 8200 series notebook with a centrino duo processor and i must say its much faster as compared to my desktop which has a P4. You can expect even better performance with the core 2 duo processors.

The ferrari series which acer markets in india are generations old now!! They've already lauched better confuigurations in the west. Its one of the best notebooks to flaunt but currently dell and hp offer better configurations at much cheaper rates. Check out the inspiron 6400 and 9400 with core 2 duo processors!!

The choice is rather obivous - dual core is definetly the newer, better next-er technology. Go for it.

_________

Actualy, i hear dual-core has already become Yesterday !!

Intel is sayin this -

"Two processors on a chip? That's so yesterday. It is time to talk four-in-one PC chips."

These words were straight from the Intel's Paul Otellini while at NEW DELHI when he announced the release in November this year of the world's first-ever chip with four processor cores on board.

Here's the Hindu article on it The Hindu, Oct 1st

can u beleive it !? Dammit, i havent even tried the 2-in-1s yet and they are movin to 4-in-1s :Confuso::P

So, u wanna wait for one more month? :)

I am AMD fan as compare to price performance competitively & there combination with Nvidia chipset M/B rocks over intel combination.

amit, obviously you havent seen the Intel Core Duo. It has been doing some serious a$$ kicking for a long time now :P Anyway, AMD processors rock too :)

I would recommend going in for the higher end Core Duo processors, if you have the cash. Dont go in for the P4. It's just very power hungry and produces excessive heat! :(

AMD 64 bit dual core and Intel Dual Core are both the best. Both's performance is magnificent.

ddr-2 has far better throughput and is much faster and more expensive than ddr ram.

I heard AMDs have some heat problem, ie they heat up a lot. AMD Prices are most of the times cheaper than intel. Can anyone point out why exactly is this difference?

AMD is Intel's rival. Lately they have been on the rocks cuz of Intel's Core 2 Duo which is very power efficient and has kick *** performance. So AMD's own Intel-is-so-freakin-hot strategy has backfired and exploded in their own faces and now Core 2 Duo is rocking everything!! :(

Just Try AMD X2 3600 (Dual Core)

with M2NE Board of Asus which Feature NVidia 570 MCP and also Add Graphic card like NVida 7300 GT

AMD will Outperform Intel in every way after Saving at Price also

Inetl Core Duo have 67 Micron Tech and AMD X2 3600 is also same both have equallent Power Consumtion and Both is MUlti Stepping Frequency Control for Heat Control

Of Cource Core Duo is Newer and Better but it Rs 3500 more Pricy and AMD with Great NVida Chipsets Rocks

I my Self have AMD X2 3600 with NVidia SLI 590 Board with Dual NVidia 7300 GT Graphics Card and can Get 3DMarks 2005 Rating around 7500 which 7 timer Better than Normal Core 2 Duo and 1.3 Better with Same Configuration on Core Duo Platform

Dear Friends!

First of all think about your needs!. If you have enough money!!!! then you may go to Intel Duo processor based systems. At the same time - it is multi tasking ... (any one needs this ? -- to write a dvd at the same time to see a film or play a game ---???? ) For any type of office applications - even the celeron D is performing well. Or even the semperon from AMD. But according to the market now they are suggesting duo core - isn't it. But i think for the current desktop scenario all the processors are doing well.

Suggest !

Thanks to all.

Core 2 Duo is Expensive and bit slow in Graphics

go for AMD Dual Core X2 64 3600

Either Go for AMD or Core2Duo processors

Donot buy P4 D processor , since they consume lots of power. and dissipate lots of heat.

In india Price of AMD processor is little bit high compared to US(w.r.to intel).

Because AMD X2 processor prices is falling like anything, but here it will almost match with core2 duo prices.

I just upgraded my system to the new Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13Ghz...

with 1GB 533 DDRII...

and it really rocks.....

AMD X2 was good... its anyday better than the P4 series and the Pentium D series... but dosent come close to the Core2 by any margins.....

...

my two cents...

I know. It has to rock. How much did it cost you? Did you get the boxed version or the OEM version? Where did you buy it from?
