Chirag 5 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 Weird enuf! Wrong SMS that took her life SUCHANDANA GUPTA TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ TUESDAY, MAY 25, 2004 05:00:16 AM ] Rediff.com BHOPAL: "Sorry, you have failed." These are the words that snuffed the life out of 17-year-old Aditi Jeena. It was like any other Sunday morning at the Jeenas'. Aditi's parents and younger sister had gone for their morning walk. It was then that Aditi received news of class XII CBSE results. She SMSed her roll number only to be told she had failed. Her family returned to find her hanging from the ceiling fan. They had little joy in the fact that she had actually passed with 62 per cent aggregate. Police say they are investigating the suicide and the possibility that the cellular service provider gave out the wrong result. One of the theories is that Aditi may have keyed in a wrong roll number. Additional superintendent of police, Indore, Rakesh Gupta, in-charge of the case says, "... We are first trying to find out whether she had dialled the right roll number. And it is quite likely that she must have because no one takes such a strong decision to end one's life if he or she is not sure."
Ashokjp 15 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 Poor gal!!.. It might be that cell matched the roll no with some other exam and hence displayed the results of someone else.. Watever it is, that incorrect service took a life..
emmi 3 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 Remember r-world when we first got our cell phones or for the matter the quality of r-connect as of now. If reliance want to think of posting results they should think twice before doing so. Hey these are people who cant send their own bills correctly and on time. Hope reliance had read that news feature.
Ashokjp 15 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 Regarding putting results thru sms is not a big deal unless the records they get is correct and their system is proper
Tushar 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2004 Well all service providers do mention clearly that results may not be accurate. If a person passes by 68% then he/she could be 100% sure they would atleast pass the exam. The service provider is not to blame in any circumstances, how could that be their fault???????? Although they should try putting accurate results on the other hand and test their systems before rolling out on such a large scale.

Utsav 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 They did, at least in WestBengal Madhyamik results. But they offered only the Division, not the score, not even the percentage.
Code 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I think No service provder need to accept responsibility for a wrong result - beyond taking a "Reasonable degree of care" and displaying Disclaimer and asking the user to confirm the results directly before a decision is taken based on that (me talking about applying for a future course etc - not suicide). Every service involves inherent risk that many of us us accept without acknowledging ... Things as simple as taking a lift on a frnz bike/car ... so on... I think people should be more responsible before taking such drastic actions ... Anyways the event was very unfortunate
Chirag 5 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 They did, at least in WestBengal Madhyamik results. But they offered only the Division, not the score, not even the percentage. For Maharashtra results, they provided the percentage scored, Total Marks, and on Pressing the NEXT button, exact marks for each subject were provided!
