abhay 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 HC directs Maha govt to issue notice to GoogleThe Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to issue notice to Google for alleged spread of hatred about India by its social network service `Orkut'. The order was issued by Justice A P Deshpande and Justice R M Borde yesterday in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by local Advocate Yugant R Marlapalle. A picture of burning national tri-colour, bearing anti-India messsage, has been put on www.orkut.com and a community "We Hate India" has been created on the site, the petition said. The petition has also appealed to the government to appoint a `controller' under the Information Technology Act-2000 to regulate all such communities being in operation on the internet. Orkut is an online community that connects people through a network of friends. The website is providing an online meeting place to socialise, make new acquaintances and find others with common interests. The next hearing in the case is scheduled after six weeks. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2136967.cms AGAINST........ WE HATE INDIA Community on ORKUT i say join the community and support the cause http://www.orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=14773994 << link to WE HATE INDIA if u wanna have a look @ those a**holes

smartbuddy_82 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 I have reported the site as bogus sometime back as google claims to remove any community if 1000 people report it as "Bogus". Finally someone files a PIL against that stupid commuity, hope the Govt takes stern action also warns google to keep an eye on such communities spreading hatred against India... Shabz 8 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 There may be many sites on the net which spread hatred against any person or country whom can you stop. There always is and will be differences of opinion. Basically the people who file such PIL's do so for publicity and or political reasons. There are lawyers sitting to file PIL against any thing We should ignore these things

rits76 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 hehe...stupid people...Google is not responsible for the content put up on Orkut. Well, Google is responsible for the content put up on Orkut. Since they own the site. What I find a little surprising is that the court is getting into something that it can do nothing about. What is the worst it can do? Ask all ISPs in India to block Orkut.com. That would amount to public censorship. (This is different from the blog sites that were blocked - because here the court would have to give a public order - there we still dont know what the orders really were). I think we should all protest on Orkut itself but leave it at that. Everyone has a right to free speech - we can choose not to listen to it. Think about what Bal Thackeray says about certain communities in India - we still let him be. Why are the courts not doing anything about that?
abhay 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 hehe...stupid people...Google is not responsible for the content put up on Orkut. true Well, Google is responsible for the content put up on Orkut. smartbuddy_82 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 Guys do u remember the Avnish Bajaj incident of Baazee.com. Mr. Avnish Bajaj CEO, Baazee.com (Now Ebay.in) was arrested and was behind bars because one of the users of the site had posted to sell some mms clips. Now what was the CEO's fault in that? Ebay.in (previously Baazee.com) is such a huge site with so many categories and so many products but still he was arrested and put behind bars. That was a small mms clip, this Orkut community is spreading hatred against the Nation so why is it wrong to take action and ask Google (Orkut) to remove such communities from its site??? spdf 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 But how can you expect Google to keep track of all the communities...it is impossible.
prathod 3 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 (edited) it happens on the internet always, remember the good old days of geohumor.com where pakis were made fun of and abused in all possible ways, anyway they did deserve it but what i mean to say here is that people with hatred are always there on the forums and comunities like orkut and we dont have much control over them,i know google will respect the indian law and will remove such things from orkut because it sees india as a major opportunity and many of its workers are from india but what if these type of things come up on some other blog or forum which does not respect our govt and ignores any apeal by the govt and we dont have any control over them ? and right as someone said here in this post we should ignore such things. If a dog barks at a king(India) the king cant bark back at him nor can he ask for the dog to be killed, becoz he knows he is a king and barking of a dog wont change his status. ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 OMG!! fuss over the spilt milk again :! there are a trillion such communities everywhere ... and trust me if u search carefully, you would see a zillion such sites state "I hate this country" and that country :! Forget it guys ... We've a respect to upkeep, those numbwits might not have a better use of their time, probably they have so much of time to sit, post crap everywhere, and design bombs... leave the dirty job to them ... Orkut is a open community, and it is practically impossible to have a cop sitting day and night to check on it ... btw just as anujit said ... "who made the mah. gov the policing authority on the net ???" and well before getting around to policing on the net, ensure safety inside the god-damn state, which they cannot !! sit back, and watch the fun as it will take ages for the issue to pass thro the court ... and by the time it is out ... the community would be rated "B"ogus lolz !! PS : Go ahead ... rate it bogus (how much more can I enthusize anyone:D)) cheers ashok

Arun 795 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Marlapalle had also written to Google, which owns orkut, in Mumbai, requesting them to close the site. The PIL also had prayed to appoint a controller under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and close all similar sites on the Internet. I just hope the government won't repeat the recent blogspot block saga with Orkut ! IMHO, Google cannot be held responsible here as they have clear Terms which says that they aren't responsible for any content posted by its users and any "hatred/violent" matter is prohibited. Since they cannot moderate those controversial topics as the user base is HUGE, they have to depend on its users to "report" them. It does get weary for the administrators when there are hundreds of such hatred topics/communities all over the place and people start reporting each other. Looks as though Google has started deleting certain topics from that community now.
