KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 I am not technically qualified to answer but from my experience, I tell you the following: - upgrade RAM always helps. you can go in for an additional 256 MB RAM, this way your system will have 384MB RAM. My HW engr, told me to go in for a single RAM but I overruled him and put an additional 256 MB RAM and I have no regrets so far. Only thing is both the RAM have to match and complement each other. I have the same on my system and it works fine over the last one year without any problems so far. Tech. Qual. people on this forum may also give their comments. Puneet 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 Having an extra RAM will surly help you. Just make sure the new RAM is compatible with the old one - sometimes non-compatibility will lead to frequent OS crashes. In fact, purchase new RAM from a known vendor, and with pre-condition that you will pay only if the RAM works fine.
Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 All possible answers hv been given Just add 256 MB RAM and make sure its of the same frequency as of ur current one
Honest 836 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 @Tanveer May be your system support only PC133 frequency RAM so you have to check it out first what frequency of RAM was loaded at present in your system. Some older systems support PC100 frequency RAM only. You can't put PC100 Ram with PC133 or vice versa. Regards.

anujit 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 I don't think adding 256 MB RAM would help you much Tanveer. At the current prices you should go for 512 at least.
tanveer 59 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 My concern more than anything else is that the processor is 1.8.will that be the limiting factor and slow down the system even if i upgrade ram?
abhay 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 (edited) no tanveer !! i had been using 256 mb RAM with 1.7 celeron for 2 yrs until few months back !! it worked really fine for a normal home use *no heavy games/app would work correctly though and 128 mb is minimum recommended for XP !! so u obviously have to have more ram than that for your sys to work recommendation based on ur post "At my home I have 1.8GHz on 128 MB RAM" <<< u need it for home and u don't wanna spend otherwise anujits suggestion of taking 512 ram is better Edited November 20, 2006 by abhay
Puneet 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 These days most of the movies that one downloads from th net increasingly use complex compression algorithms, and a home PC too requires good RAM. I would suggest a minimum of 512MB RAM.
