Sify Client In Linux?

Recommended Posts

I have installed PCLinuxOS on my pc, just for learning. Great os, system up and running in 15 mins. But I am not able to get the sify broadband to work yet.

I have downloaded the sify client for linux, and it showed me the client is out of date, and pls update it. I read somewhere on the net, that u need to inform sify about this, and then they allow ur IP/allocate u an IP so that the old client can be used to login.

when i called up the sify CC, they gave me this URL for downloading latest client for linux:

http://202.144.65.70:8090/

But it is not getting connected at all! Can someone pls help me in this matter? If you have the latest dialer, pls upload it somewhere, or guide me the alternate procedure.

have you configured your NIC properly? That URL can only be accessed from INSIDE Sify's LAN so if you're trying to download it from some other connection like dial up or something then it wont work. Also you could use some alternative dialer for Linux.

The address in not pinging. I got a call from Sify, saying something that he needs to allocate me an ip to allow using old dialer. All dialers (official n alternate) for linux are based on old client, which is no more allowed to access sify. They'll have to allow my IP to access sify using old dialer.

Will keep u updated. If you have any advise on this matter, pls let me know.

BTW, is there any easy list of important commands of Konsole? why does it sometimes display # and sometimes $ at beginning?

I got the internet working. You need to tell sify to enalbe logging in from Linux for your username, then they allow your IP and mac address to access the internet even with an old version of the client.

And thanks, linuxguy. u r right about $ & #.
