Reliance Communications Plans Mobile Commerce Splash

The next time you shop in a mall, eat out or want to watch a movie, you may not need to pay bills or book tickets through credit card. Just flash your mobile phone and the transaction could be completed.

Sources said Reliance Communications is looking at mobile commerce in a big way and is in the process of finalising deals with major theatres and multiplexes for movie ticketing through mobile phones. Should the tie-ups materialise, it would be the first company to offer such a service.

If all goes well, the company would also be offering a host of other m-commerce applications through its Reliance World suite in a few months, the sources said.

The rapidly growing mobile subscriber base offers significant opportunities to mobile operators to offer mass-market as well as niche m-commerce applications and services.

Analysts say the idea of buying products on cell phones is likely to catch on next year, when costs of connecting to wireless internet and mobile calling charges are likely to come down.

M-commerce is picking up in the metros and it will only be a while before it catches on elsewhere. Cell phones are well-positioned to replace traditional wallets for storing money or credit cards as people carry them everywhere.

Experts say m-commerce is much more than just e-commerce gone mobile.

Meanwhile, in Bangalore, Inox Leisure has been experimenting with a hand-held booking device that enables a movie-goer to book tickets from any of the three outlets of Spice Telecom, even as PVR Cinemas is in talks with Singapore-based mobile technology services firm Tagit for a pilot barcode scanning project for movie ticketing.

What’s more, come next week and Seijo’s at Bandra in Mumbai would have become the first restaurant in the country to accept mobile payments.

The Reliance Mobile customers can access movie ticket booking service on Reliance Mobile World> MoreServices> TravelNshop> MovieTickets

In line with its endeavour to offer the power of convenience to its many million customers, Reliance Communications today added a few more mass-market Mobile Commerce (M-Commerce) applications on the Reliance Mobile World platform. The company has tied up with Reliance Energy to offer the convenience of electricity bill payments which would benefit roughly 2.5 mn customers of Reliance Energy in Mumbai.

In the Electricity bill payment application, Reliance Energy customers can view and pay his/her bills over Reliance Mobile using ITZ cash card, after a simple registration procedure. A customer holding an ITZ Cash Card can pay their utility bills by click of a button on Reliance Mobile World (R World) without needing to access the internet.

“The fast growing subscriber base in the country offers significant opportunities to offer mass-market as well as niche M-Commerce applications, and Reliance Communications is confident of enhancing our leadership in this arena by introducing a slew of innovative services”, said Mahesh Prasad. President - Application and Solutions Group, Reliance Communications.

The Movie ticket booking service would initially be available for 57 screens across Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore and customers and ten more cities will be added to the list by end of January along with Inox and the Cinemax theatres. Customers can access it on Reliance Mobile World>MoreServices>TravelNshop>Movie Tickets. After selecting the theatre of their choice, the customers can browse through movie list and the preferred date. On making the payment through a credit card, a confirmatory SMS received can be shown at the theatre counter for issuing the tickets. The same service can also be accessed on the Reliance Mobile voice interactive service by dialling 1234 and saying “Movie Tickets”.

Reliance Mobile World has gained popularity as a one-stop-shop for entertainment, communication, gaming and m-commerce. One of our members posted a very great thing earlier in one of the post,

Rajeshkatiyar

Soon you will witness more failures . AA will do nothing to

improve network. Rel is like indian railways running on

still British layed lines resulting lot of failures and congestion

One of my Friend is trying to change handset

for last one week but failing. Even web world persons are

refusing to change handsets in UP east now. It is all due

to failure of Main Server because of overload

first it should try to manage its own billing system properly, organise its own team/staff,network and online bill payments then only these things would be sucessful.

Or else we would end up calling and writing to CC for the errors and wrong payments :P .

Reliance Premiers "Ctrl+Alt+Del"

Recently, Reliance Communications announced the premier of "Ctrl+Alt+Del" on Reliance Mobile World.

What is significant about "Ctrl+Alt+Del" is that it is a movie specifically produced for the mobile platform by Phonethics Mobile Media (maker of exclusive mobile content).

Commenting on the initiative, Mahesh Prasad, President of Applications Solutions & Content Group, Reliance Communications, said, "The premiere of 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' on Reliance Mobile marks another milestone, whereby the Indian film industry has recognized the power of the mobile medium by releasing it on Reliance Mobile World."

"Reliance continues to delight its mobile customers by bringing big screen content to mobile phones such as the recent introduction of TV serials like Mahabharata and Malgudi Days," Prasad said.

Adding to it, Saurabh Gupta, CEO of Phonethics Mobile Media and Director of 'Ctrl+Alt+Del', said, "Phonethics is in the advanced stages of developing a slew of new products for exclusive distribution over mobile phones in the growing Indian market. We look forward to surge ahead with the support of partners such as Reliance and Rahul Bose."

Releasing 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' on Reliance Mobile World, noted actor Rahul Bose, said, "For the first time in world telecommunications history, the customer has been offered two completely diverse offerings on a single platform: mobile services and movies! I am thrilled to be part of this never-before initiative jointly promoted by Reliance Communications and Phonethics Mobile Media."

"Ctrl+Alt+Del" is now accessible on Reliance Mobile World under the option, 'Movies N More'. It is available at Rs 15 for a 5 minute online streaming; Rs 10 for movie video clips; and Rs 5 for downloads of ringtones and wallpapers.

A futuristic film, "Ctrl+Alt+Del" is set against a backdrop wherein technology guides human interactions.

Rahul Bose aka Kabir is on the verge of committing suicide when he gets a call from a woman. Turns out there is no woman, no human being even at the other end; all along he's been talking to a piece of software...
