bsevishal 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2007 Hi, SMS sent to airtel nos. are being delivered more than 3times sent from my reliance nos. Other users here face similar problem. Some say msgs are being delivered twice and some say 5times. This is happening with Airtel only. I send bulk to messages to many nos. which include Hutch, BSNL & Spice, but none of these complain. Pls suggest. I send 200+msgs a day and coz of this reason tryin to avoid to send msgs to Airtel no. Since msgs are freee from my reliance no. KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted March 8, 2007 Why do you worry when it is free for you? It happens not only with Airtel but also other service providers in Chennai. Some of my friends get irritated but when I told them it was not my fault, they understood it is the great RCL - thinking higher and better nowadays. Another possible reason could be you are re-sending the SMS as it would have failed. If this is so, your friend could receive multiple copies of the same SMS. And yes, there is nothing that could be done about this problem. Enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
raccoon 53 Report post Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) Iv been having all kinds of SMS problems with RIM every once in a while! Currently been SMSing a friend on Idea (local) ...and thanks to this new bright idea RIM has got, it splits SMSes above 153 characters into multiple SMSes ...and yes it chops off midway between words too ...very irritating and you have to make so many more keystrokes to get the "job" done! Argggh! Whats more often I get only one of the SMSes (usually the 1st one) ...and the 2nd never comes ...so Im left with incomplete SMSes! Whats more, I sometimes even get multiple copies of the first SMS! Could someone with an LMS (Long Messaging Service) RIM handset pleaseeeeeeeee tell me how it handles the job? Is it anywhere close to the way its done in a GSM phone with concatenated SMSes??? Edited March 8, 2007 by raccoon

I do not want to take an additional connection (GSM)for sending the messages(coz of cost and additional handset burden) What could be the reason for the messages gettting delivered multiple times to only airtel nos.? I guess the problem is with Airtel server. Or is it that the Airtel is doing it purposefully ? Vishal
raccoon 53 Report post Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) As you can imagine, if you complain, for sure, RIM will try to pass the buck to Airtel ...and I wont be surprised if Airtel does the same! But bottomline is that RIM has always been problematic with texting ...GSM phones seem to be lot more reliable ...and more inter-operator comaptible wrt texting... Not to mention, they can handle MUCH longer messages (700/900 characters in handsets). Edited March 8, 2007 by raccoon
KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted March 8, 2007 @bsevishal, If you have a RUIM enabled phone, maybe you can take a TATA Indicom connection. Here you will get 3000 local and national SMSs free for Rs 100 with any postpaid plan. Maybe this will solve your problem if this is really RCLs doing and not Airtels. As told in the earlier posts, you cannot do anything about this and don't ever try to waste your time complaining to CC or CMO or emailing because the entire department right from the very top to the very bottom at RCL CC or CMO is now manned by nincompoops all the way. If you have the time and the energy, then go ahead and complain. After some time you will realise what I am saying is true. Try It. You might be lucky enough. I have stopped complaining to any level nowadays having learnt a very good lesson the very hard way. Cheeeeeeeeeeeers
raccoon 53 Report post Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) Does anybody know if the Tata network and handsets can handle SMSes bigger than 160 characters? Edited March 8, 2007 by raccoon
HetalDP 947 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Yes New Nokia 6275 in Tata Does support SMS more than
raccoon 53 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 None of the lower end phones support it??? And does it handle long SMSes as slickly as GSM phones?
KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted March 10, 2007 Seems no one has any idea about the above, raccoon. Try asking someone locally who has a 6275 with TATA connection. I know it is like finding a needle in a haystack. But then thats the way it is. Hope we get the answers. Thanks
KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted March 10, 2007 Yes New Nokia 6275 in Tata Does support SMS more than 160 Does it mean while sending or receiving. I mean can a TATA 6275 receive LMS in one single sms or in multiples of 160 characters? Or are you referring to sending LMS as one single sms?
raccoon 53 Report post Posted March 10, 2007 Not a single of my contacts have (or had) a Tata mobile number. So there is no one to ask! The few who had RIM connectiosn have also given them up, as of now! I really like to know about both - sending and recieving SMSes! As u know, even the lowest end GSM phones can send and recieve SMS in multiples of 160 characters ...some I belive upto 900 characters (approx). And they are displayed as a one single SMS only ...though of course the sender would be charged in multiples of 160 characters. I would really appreciate if anybody could post his experiences with regard to LMS enabled RIM phones...
