The company said that its offer of unlimited storage space on rediffmail is powered by an innovative technology, which is not only scaleable, but also cost-effective. The technology is architected using Web services, self-managed storage control units, and large distributed storage clusters. Speaking on the occasion, Ajit Balakrishnan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Rediff.com, said, "With the phenomenal growth of broadband penetration, usage of email for storage and sharing of multimedia files has increased. We worked very hard on the method of making sure that we give our users unlimited space, and provide an intelligent search with the mail so that its storage can be efficiently managed. This initiative is the culmination of all the efforts we put in the last 2 years." "Rediff's offering of unlimited storage space enables users to store unlimited photos, music files, and videos without worrying about deleting mails from inbox. Advanced search in rediffmail enables users to manage unlimited storage space effectively, and help retrieve relevant content as and when required," Balakrishnan said. The company further said that unlimited storage space, which is available to all users of rediffmail, works even under low bandwidth. Rediff also gives an assurance that with unlimited storage space and non-closure of ids, small and medium enterprises, and individuals need not use multiple email ids, as rediffmail id can become their permanent id. It is also learnt that rediffmail is packed with innovative user friendly features of desktop email such as writing mail in 11 Indian languages, instant preview of mails and attachments, drag and drop facility for mails to any folder, search for emails or attachments, and auto-completion of email addresses by simply typing a few characters.
