Honest 836 Report post Posted April 6, 2007 (edited) Reliance Communications acquires 1.2 million Subscribers in March 2007Maintains position as India's 2nd largest Wireless Operator, with re-verified wireless subscriber base of over 28 million Completes re-verification of subscriber base as on 31st March 2007 Balance re-verification to continue, with re-activation of customers within 48 hours of receipt of complete documentation Re-verification exercise expected to result in approx. 12% increase in ARPU No adverse impact either on total revenues or profitability Reliance Communications has acquired over 1.2 million wireless subscribers in the month of March 2007. Reliance Communications has also maintained its position as India's second largest wireless operator, with a re-verified wireless subscriber base of over 28 million as on 31st March 2007. Reliance Communications is the country's foremost truly integrated telecommunications service provider, with an aggregate over 30 million customers as on 31st March 2007, across its wireless, wireline, broadband, and national and international long distance businesses. As on March 31, 2007, Reliance Communications has completed re-verification of 85% of its entire wireless subscriber base, in accordance with the industry-wide requirement from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in the interests of national security. In accordance with the DoT's requirements, subscribers that could not be verified at the end of the stipulated period, despite intensive efforts made by the company, have been deactivated. However, Reliance Communications will continue its subscriber re-verification initiatives, and customers submitting the requisite complete documentation will be re-activated within 48 hours. There will be no adverse impact from the re-verification exercise, either on total revenues or profitability, as the de-activated customers did not generate any material revenues in the last quarter. In fact, Reliance Communications' ARPU (average revenue per user) is expected to increase by 12% as a result of the re-verification exercise, making it one of the top 3 players in India in terms of ARPU. raccoon 53 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 (edited) What is the rental in your circle? The rental for their plan here is about 150 ...and 50p call tariff ...thats more or less at par with what others are offering ...not great, not bad! But RIM post-paid here has no SMS pack!!! So SMS charge will be Rs. 1 & 2 for local and national! Totally unacceptable!! And those free 75 SMSes must be only in your circle. Here in Maharashtra circle, they ain't giving a single free SMS! Whats more they are asking for approx Rs. 350 to convert from pre-paid to post! Overall, I found it to be an unacceptable deal... Whats more, note that Reliance has always been giving only local SMSes with its pre-paid SMS packs ...when most other operators are giving national SMSes! SDCA = Short Distance Charging Area. It is roughly the same as a Tehsil or a part of a district. Bombay for eg. is an SDCA. Edited April 7, 2007 by raccoon

theking 35 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 arpu in top 3 after the 12% increase due to reverification! great! but any idea whether the free offers given along with have been counted in the arpu calculations? let me google..
HetalDP 947 Report post Posted April 12, 2007 ARPU in TOP 3 BCoz All GSM Operator have made Roaming Rental to ZERO and Charges of Roaming is also at Par with Reliance. So reliance ARPU might not have increased but All Top GSM players ARPU would have reduced
raccoon 53 Report post Posted April 12, 2007 (edited) Hmm... if that is indeed the case ...its kinda like jugglery... Anyway, since the advantage of Reliance wrt. roaming is now a thing of the past, its very likely that those who were with RIM only due to this factor will shift to other operators ...and then I guess we will see a more realistic ARPU. KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted April 12, 2007 RCL has added only 1.2 mln customers whereas Airtel has added 6.1 mln customers in the same period. SO RCL is way, way behind. Obviously, customers do not want to be taken for a gala ride on board the now unreliable RCL. Hey raccoon, your's is one more Airtel in the 6.1 mln, Ha Ha Ha. All know about the new policies of the avaricious RCL and they will not touch RCL with a bargepole. The only people who add up in this 1.2 mln business are the poor auto, vegetable/fruit vendors, barbers, drainage cleaners etc who get carried away by the free 1500/2000 minute offer that RCL gives alongwith the 1399/1599 etc stupid handset schemes. After the free minutes are used up, they will just throw away RCL with their handsets. What exactly is brewing in ADA's mind and why does he not realise the harsh ground realities? Or is it a lull before the storm? I know there aren't going to be any severe storms from RCL though. Or is he just sleeping content with the 1 lakh crore capitalisation thing? Or is he very busy, scheming other businesses? The sooner he gets up or understands the realities, the better. Or else, next month onwards, ADA/RCL will see far, far lesser numbers. Thanks

Thanks India adds record 6.1 mn GSM users Mumbai, April 12: Indian GSM mobile phone service providers signed up a record 6.1 million customers in March, taking total users to 121.4 million, a telecoms industry body said. Bharti Airtel Ltd, India's top mobile provider, added 1.7 million customers in March, taking its user base to 37.1 million State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, added 2.0 million customers, taking its user base to 27.4 million, while Hutchison Essar Ltd's 1.1 million new customers lifted its user base to 26.4 million. raccoon 53 Report post Posted April 12, 2007 Hehe, yes! But I might now contribute much longer to Airtel's ARPU, as just discovered that Idea has exactly the same scheme ...and since 75% of my addr book consists of Idea numbers, I can call/SMS them at 10p and save a packet! Seems to me that RCL's user base is likely to be lot more volatile if it consists mainly of the type you have defined. But it still beats me ...what to do with the 1.4 - 2 k RIM - RIM talk time? And I guess pay Rs. 1.79 to call other mobiles!? I guess ADA hallucinates about "poor auto, vegetable/fruit vendors, barbers, drainage cleaners etc" to earn him top ARPU??? The only lame offers I used to get from RIM, ie. bonus RIM - RIM talk time was going totally waste in my last few months with RIM as the already few people I know who owned a RIM moved to GSM.
