petar 15 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 There are certain steps. first of all understand 9001:2000 is standard for QMS - Quality Management Systems. If focuses on the Management system in your company. It has nothing to do with quality of the end product. To help you understand all the clauses of ISO better, you shall need to hire a consultant who will ensure that your company has proper procedures & systems in place before you apply for certification. After your consultant is satisfied with internal procedures/systems of company - you may apply to a ISO accredited Certifying body. There are Accredited Certification Authorities like TUV, BVQI , American Global etc which audit your company & verify that your company complies with the requisites of ISO standard. After that they grant you the certificate for 2 - 3 years. There is a quaterly, bi-annual or annual audits futher to ensure that your company maintains the same procedure after the certificate is granted. Hope this give u a brief idea. kshah 452 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Before you really go for a ISO or hire consultant ask few questions to yourself and company. 1. Do you really need ISO 9000 (in most cases answer is yes) 2. Do you want to get it because your competition has it? If this answer is yes, then I will suggest you to go slow and estimate your needs for ISO. 3. When ever you hire consultants, keep 22 things in minnd about them, there are consultant who gets you ISO in flat 3 months and work is based on templates. So at times procedures becomes so lengthy and complicated that companies fails to comply in day to day activities. They finish all forged paper work when ever they have audit. Try to design system which is easy to follow, documentation which is not cumbersome. If your company is manufacturing firm, then documentation design on templates really do not work. petar 15 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 yes- i agree with Kshah. if u need ISO for namesake... damm who cares... throw the money.. hire some random consultant & get it done from a cheap certifying body. Rest assured it will not make any diffrence to you n yr organization in terms of productivity, output, quality of service & management issues will still be same. a well thought out process design will take time but benefot will be seen in long run .
