Vsnl Launches Wimax Services

Recommended Posts

Tata-owned Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) has reportedly announced the launch of WiMax services in India.

The company says that as of now, these services have been started for enterprise customers in Bangalore. But that it plans to extend the WiMax network to enterprise customers across nearly 120 cities as also retail customers in about five cities by end this year.

According to VSNL, the launch of WiMax offers a wireless solution to last mile connectivity issues faced by enterprise customers, and opens up exciting possibilities for retail customers, since WiMax has the potential to offer high-speed, wireless connectivity for data and Internet applications.

WiMax refers to high-speed Internet access over a wireless connection, and it is a low-cost way to provide Internet connectivity in places where laying cables is difficult. WiMax also facilitates video streaming, high-speed file downloads, voice over IP, and Web browsing while on-the-go.

Vinod Kumar, President of Global Data and Mobility Solutions, VSNL, said they are proud to be the first company to launch WiMax-based services in India. This will help VSNL offer very high quality, and seamless connectivity to their customers.

The company added that a number of companies drawn from diverse sectors like retail, financial services, and automobiles are already benefiting from its Wimax services. Meanwhile, VSNL has launched WiMax after conducting pilots in Bangalore and other locations.

Great news :)

I wish they start the service in Calcutta asap i will definitely go for it...

Tired of these cables & wires... its time to go wireless :Equivocado:

Yeah Rajiv...

This sure does sound fun and ofcourse is the future of the net... its just like in the case of FWT/FWP taking over the traditional landlines... life seemingly becomes so much simpler...

i have a bsnl unlimited@256 connection at home and end up cursing my "line-man" almost everyday for a little disturbance that keeps coming on the phone rendering the net connect edgy... but when it works... it does like a charm... so this wimax thing is gonna be a treat for most of us mobile users...

lets see the filter efect and how long it takes to get to us finally... u can Cal sooner than me in Lucknow !!! hahahahah !!!

cheers !
