Dvd At Door Step In Only Rs 6

Recommended Posts

Have you ever landed up in a CD shop and stood there for hours wondering which film to take?

Have you ever rented a VCD/DVD and found the quality unwatchable?

Have you ever got late in returning your rented DVD and paid a late fine?

Have you ever felt exasperated watching a pirated CD?

Have you ever felt life would have been better if somebody would just deliver a movie CD to your doorstep?

If the answer to any of the above question is yes, continue reading…

Online DVD rental is not a very new concept worldwide. The concept was introduced in the US by a company called NetFlix years ago. At the end of first quarter of 2007, Netflix stands at a customer base of 6.8 million users. For many days Indian investors shied away from a similar business in the country. After all, the world’s largest democracy is also the largest piracy market in CD/DVDs. But not anymore.

In Delhi, now you can have a movie feast with MovieMart, an innovative enterprise, offering unlimited and credible services/DVDs at an enticing cost and just a click away (www.moviemart.in). Also, for the first time you can rent a DVD without worrying about late fine, picture quality or your choice of film being wasted. And you can have the DVD delivered at your doorstep.

MovieMart’s founder Rahul Mansharmani in an interview on revolutionizing the DVD watching experience in NCR region.

Tell us about MovieMart

I started MovieMart in March 2006. The idea was to provide a DVD of your choice at your doorstep. After one year we have two branches, one in West Delhi and other in South Delhi. We have a growing customer base of over 1000.

How does the whole process work?

One has to register online or on phone. Once he has paid his subscription and refundable security deposit as per selected plan, his a/c is activated. The member can log on to our site and select the movies he would like to rent. Ours is the only company in this industry, which has put the entire inventory on line. This means the exact choices of titles are available at a mouse click away. Generally all other companies in India work according to a model where you make a wish list of at least ten movies and they will send you whatever is available with them.

In a market where CDs and DVDs are at times available even before the movie is released, where every colony has a CD shop, how viable do you think this concept of online DVD rental is?

That’s true and I agree with you, but we are already noticing a change where more and more people are going after quality original DVDs. We have some very attractive plans starting at Rs 199 by which you can get unlimited DVDs in a month. That means if one has time he can rent 30 DVDs in a month, at an approximate cost of Rs. 6 per movie, home delivered all seven days in a week up till 10 pm. There is no reason for people to go for pirated DVDs, which are of bad quality, and damage their DVD players.

Do you work only in Delhi?

Our offices are based only in Delhi with two centers.

Any plans to spread to other cities?

Yes, we are planning to foray into some other cities.

We have seen a number of online DVD rental firms coming up in recent times. Is MovieMart one of them or do you have something extra to offer to the customers?

There are a number of edges that MovieMart has over other players in the same business. Let me list them down:

* At Rs 199 unlimited movies in a month is one of most attractive plan in the movie renting business.

* The entire inventory is a collection of DVDs. We keep a VCD only when the DVD format of that particular film is not available. Every DVD is tested before delivery.

* Open seven days a week and that too up to 10 pm. We are working on extending it to midnight.

* We are the only company to have all inventory online, no need to make a wish list. A member knows exactly what he is getting. Even NETFLIX USA inventor of online DVD rental in the world has not done this. Just visit www.moviemart.in and make your choice, let us know and we deliver it to your home.

* Highly motivated and our delivery success is around 99.9per cent due to our in-house training and incentives programme offered to them.

* We deliver the selected movies at your doorstep, within one hour if you live in West Delhi and South Delhi. In case residents in other parts of Delhi and NCR we deliver it within the same day. We are soon going to open branches in Noida and Gurgaon.

* Added to this there is no late fee, no cancellation charges and a huge collection to choose from.

How do you see this industry of online DVD market growing in India in the next 5 years?

It’s going to grow as internet broadband penetration is growing and we see a huge potential in this area.

What is your vision for the next five years?

To give the best and offer a personalised service to each and every customer. We are more concerned about the quality of the service rather than the growth. We believe if we keep it that way, growth will follow. We are expecting about one million subscribers all over India in next five years.

Very interesting indeed :)

Whats the company's view on the possibility of customers making their own copies of the movies they rent ? Most ppl with a pc have learnt to rip dvds nowadays...

Does the company have some VERY special data protection methods for their discs ? (i doubt very much)

waiting for moviemart to start business in other cities too :)
