jmthakur 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2007 This is not a big irritant but still I find my Nokia 6265 repeatedly at intervals switches on the backlight and shows the location. Problem is that during meetings or even while during work, it distracts you from what you are doing to check out why this happens - some sms, call, etc. Any idea how to stop this? As i said it is not a really big problem but if someone readily knows the answer, i will be thankful if he shares it please!
amtrag 20 Report post Posted June 15, 2007 I think it usually happens when the network is weak. The phone repeatedly "leaves" & "re-enters" the service area and whenever it enters, it displays the name...and there is no known cure for this problem.
raccoon 53 Report post Posted June 15, 2007 This is not a small problem as it will significantly reduce your battery life ...esp when travelling! May also decrease the life of your display. I have this problem with one of my GSM fones - L7. I even called Moto to ask for a solution, but was told there isnt one! Amazing!! I hung up with a suggestion/request that Moto at least provide a soution in a future software upgrade, if possible. I suggest you write to Nokia and do the same. As i said it is not a really big problem but if someone readily knows the answer, i will be thankful if he shares it please! One way to avoid it is not to clear that screen. Once the location is shown it will not repeat the procedure. But if you clear the screen it will again appear. I find that it is not because of signal but on account of continuous polling with the different towers. If the tower changes and the location is not polled the cell repolls the location and shows the same. This happens on all the RIM phones. e.g. i had gone to surat and while coming back from surat even after reaching vapi, my cell displayed the location as surat as I had not cleared the screen, but on repolling it updated the screen with new location. This is not a bug but a feature
jmthakur 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2007 Thanks to all. Replies were very educative. Actually, the "problem" arises while I am just sitting in office but i think as what was said above, if the link to the network breaks (and with Reliance, it somehow often does even if stationary), when it gets back, it must be showing the location. I tried out what Rajesh Soni said that if I dont clear it, it will not show again. That, I think, is working. it was true that as soon as I saw the light, i used to pick up the phone and check what happened and then clear it. so it repeated! I get the point of Rajesh that it is not a bug but a feature. Thanks again!
Sadikk 301 Report post Posted June 16, 2007 Its just that base stations refreshes all the cennection connected to it. Its common in CDMA, in some of lg handset we dont find this problem, as its hidden, and we face major not reachable issues in that though.
