Arun 795 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Saurabh, the data cable you brought is a Serial Port data cable. Now you are connecting the serial cable to your USB port, with the help of a 'usb to serial converter', right ? I guess it must be having some conflict with the 'usb to serial converter'. I recommend you to buy a USB cable and try it. Local data cables will work fine, and I think it should be available for around Rs.350 only.
isacoyd 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 saurubh, i am also using the lg 340 phone with a serial cable which i bought from bazee for 150 bucks on my laptop. Basically you have to install the software from reliance which in addition to the dialling softwrae also installs the modem drivers for your phone. then rboot with the phone connected to the serial port,, go to dial up networking and choose a new connection with modem selection as 19200 bps standard modem which is actually your phone , user name and password is your phone no with std code incl the zero. number to be dialled is hash 777. please try and let me know. you can also use the r connect dialler if you want
vkc_74 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Hi I am also facing the same problem while connecting thru my laptop. Actually latest model laptop don't have a serial ports they come with usb ports. So one has to use these cables (Prolific) for making this usb to serial but this some how dosen't works with this R Connect thing. Is there any cable available for LSP 340E which is for usb ? becoz reliance has usb cables but that is for the mobile phone not for 340E/250 models. If anyone can provide more info thanks in advance

24x7netuser 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 here r some trble shootin steps - pretty basic stuff - but no harm in trying. 1. make sure yr laptop usb port is working ok: boot up laptop (i am assuming u r using XP). with xp on nd u logged in, connect yr reliance cable 2 phone, make sure phone is turned on, make sure the serial-usb connection is proper nd not loose, nd then plug in the usb cable into the usb port. If all things r ok, yr XP should say "detected new hardware" after 2-4 secs. If it does not, try some other usb device (like webcam) If still XP does not detect any h/w - it could b a problem with yr usb port (try second usb port if u hve it) also try - going into control panel - add/remove hardware - search for new hardware - check if it detects phone. 2. If XP detects other usb h/w but not yr reliance phone, there is a problem with the cable - go 2 a vendor nd get it verified that the serial to usb converter is ok - maybe the pins r nor compatible. 3. Another way to confirm that it is a problem with converter nd not phone/laptop, is to use a standard PC: make sure pc is turned off, turn phone on, plug in the cable into the pc's serial port nd turn pc on. the pc should detect the new h/w - if not - go to control panel - add/remove hardware and search for new hardware - if it detects, the problem is with yr cable - if not with phone - take to nearest webworld nd give them hell. though the reliance phones r cool in connecting to net on the go - they r a massive pain when they start giving errors - sometime feel like throwing the phone at the idiotic guys in the web world - all stupid - don't know head or tail of what they r supposed to do. cheers nd njoy let me know if these steps help u s_shr@indiatimes.com
