Microsoft Direct Push Technology.

Recommended Posts

in Windows Mobile 5 AKU 2.2 Platform Microsoft have Launched

Microsoft Direct Push Technology.

This is something different than Push Mail Work around of Hutch.

What Hutch is doing When any EMail come to Hutch Server They Send a SMS Trigger for Initiating Connection and Download its Content from Web. But here the same old Modified MMS Technology is used. This technology have so much Limitation like

  1. The Mail come to us via Modified MMS Technology which already have Size Limits
  2. This only Provided Copy of EMail to your PPC and We can Send Reply,
  3. There is no facility for Search mail in Server.
  4. Contacts, Notes, Calenders, todo, Event are not stored in Server can can not by Sync with PPC or Phone.

Here come the Microsoft Direct Push Technology which work in ActiveSync (Same old Active Sync Buddy)

Now what ActiveSync do

Active Sync only recognise IP Network and Microsoft Active Sync 4.5 on Desktop Works as Server with Help of Outlook Mail Client. When we Plug the Phone into USB (RNDIS Connection is Initiated and IP is Allocated to PC) RNDIS is Network over USB These can also be done in Bluetooth Mode, This way the Mails are Syncronised with PPC.

Here when Instead of PC we can Directly Partner any Microsoft Direct Push Compatible Server. and out mail box will rest on that server. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2 Onward is the Server which can provide Direct Push Technology to the Mobile Phones with ActiveSync.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2 is Mail Server which Provides (POP, SMTP and Direct Push Facilities)

The Following Services can be used by Direct Push Technology

  1. MSN.com (Microsoft)
  2. Hotmail.com (Microsoft)
  3. Mail2Web.com (Microsoft)

hi hetal

I have ur 3.5a installed. just set up windows live. it is working good. can see my email but not the attachments. download is greyed. I think they do not allow to read more than 5000 words. this facility is only available in wm6. can u tell me if it can be syncronised thru outlook coz I read even that is a payed service. there r sum 3rd party pop servers but most r paid. is this push mail paid?

do refer sum method to syncronise my mobile outlook with hotmail ,gmail( this I heard is the only one free ) and also yahoo. can't find yahoo go 1 anywhere. yahoo2 isn't available for 6700 and they don't send u a sms on ur ph.

so please find solutions to make a push mail workaround for these mails. please tell me the pop incoming, outgoing and domain settings for all or any of these 3. yahoo go wud be best. thanks. ps now all services want ur phone no to register u.

Hetal my freind...

The limitation of this technology is that - u wont get LIVE ALERTS OF EMAIL. I mean if u are in some IP netwrok only then does this sync.

M i Correct ?

hi hetal any progress on this thing? i configured windows live properly but it shows only the msg contents like i said.. no attachments.. the instant messenger works good..msn messenger.. it syncs fast enough.. then i installed yahoo go 1.0 too.. and it works even better with the mail.. i wasnt able to add the pop servers or smtp servers with outlookbefore.. but this yahoo go fixed it and made a cool account.. i can easily download the attachments even from the mail.. it syncs pretty good from yahoo.. but one has to be careful to check download attachments to memory card.. now u figure out sum way to disconnect these yahoo and msn programs or time them every hour.. they do have these settings but i think our relweb world wont auto discconnect ..that wud waste battery and also the ph might not wake up when it is in sleep mode and also u might get a busy signal if it syncs to often.. if u can do that then we can have our own push mail.. now only google is left and if that is done too then we ll have all major services on our ppc.. in yahoo go 1.0 the yahoo messenger isnt working ..it links to the wap yahoo mobile site.. also both these programs add ur email contacts to ur phone contacts which is a nuisance.. u can check on see only friends in the contacts provided u have added all ur phne book contacts as friends or personal options.. msn does this if u log into msn messenger(add ur msn list in messenger and mail to ur outlook contacts).. yahoo doesnt allow u to uncheck the options like photos contack book so u can just get ur mail.. try sorting out these issues..if u get time.. or maybee u have the msn pushmail crack?

hope to see sum info on this.. thanks for ur efforts...

How to Setup Mail2Web.com in Active Sync

1. Go and sign up for an account via this link HERE

2. Once you have signed up then take your ppc and go to start/programs/activsync/menu in the bottom left corner/ now select configure server

3. In the server address box put in mobile.exchange.mail2web.com and check the box that says this server requires and encrypted (SSL) connection.

4. Hit next in the user name box put your username@mail2web.com, password, and in the domain box put ad2. You can go to advanced to setup if u want it to replace item on device and an option for event logging. You don?t have to mess with these settings unless you want to.

5. Click next and select whatever you would like the device to sync with the exchange server. I sync everything cause if I?m out and about and I have troubles I can hard reset and sync my contacts, calendar, email, and tasks right on the spot.

6. Click finish, now go to menu/schedule/ in the peak and off peak boxes select as items arrive, now set the other setting to how you want.

7. You?re DONE! Enjoy your new direct push mail.

NOTE: I recommend this service for people that live in an EVDO coverage until they fix the pinging. Cause when in a 1x coverage area it pings the server every 60 seconds just to keep the connection alive. And if you?re in a nonEVDO area this will cause you to miss calls all the time. Hopefully they will fix this soon. Supposedly they are working on this.

Is EVDO available on reliance? If yes, I am sure it should be available in Mumbai too.

I read an article on some "Times of India" site, which was dated sometime mid-2005, it said that Reliance was launching EVDO within 6-9 months, its still not launched? How is Hetal using EVDO then?

Direct Push Dont Requie EVDO

It just Require Internet Connection in Whatever the Form (Wifi, CDMA 1x Dialups, GPRS, USB RNDIS) the basic thing what Active Sync do is always Get in Touch with the Server as per your Peak and Off Peak Schedule and when ever a New Appointment or Email is Received by Server it the Server Pushes the mail to IP which is registered by the Active Sync

As in CDMA 1x if he ActiveSync Continously Try to Reach Server the Income Call gets Stoped so we can keep the Priory as per minutes means

every 5,10, 15, 30 MInuets and on.

In EVDO COntinuous Internet dont Block Incoming Call so Direct Push Technology works more Smoothly.

hetal thanks for this push mail.. it works well but i need it for hotmail and yahoo..and i realised it doesnt work for them thru mail2web.. its a stand alone mail id.. like having a new mail.. as far as hotmail goes it can only be configured thru windows live which seems to be working ok.. but can only show 5000 words.. but its ok.. hotmail can t be configured for pop or imap to anyother mail... they want u to only access ur mail thru their inbox for obvious purposes... yahoo does allow an pop3 acsess but its yahoo mail plus which is a premium service and u need to pay for that yearly.. can u tell me how to acsess push mail for hotmail.. i mean the settings like u gave for mail2web..

as far as yahoo goes the only succesful way seems thru yahoo go which seems to be working good for me.. but for all these things u need to click on 3 services.. windows live.. yahoo go and active sync.. which means these run on ur ppc all the time or most of the time.. do find sumway of integrating these with activesync.. thanks..

Here - I found something more...

Push email with Windows Mobile 6

Posted Feb 18th 2007 12:00PM by Brad Linder

Windows Mobile 6 is the first version of Windows Mobile to include push email support without setting up an Exchange server. Of course, it only works with Hotmail, but it's a start.

Once you have a Hotmail account, all you have to do is:

Open Windows Live on your mobile device.

Enter your Live information and set your device to use Live services including Messenger, Mail, and Contacts.

Click on menu and selection options.

Select Sync Schedule

Under frequency, select "as items arrive."

Now every time an email is sent to your Hotmail account, a copy will be sent to your Windows Mobile device. You can even configure your phone or PDA to work with both Hotmail and an Exchange server, allowing you to receive push email from two separate accounts.

In my earlier post on Windows Mobile 6, I had indicated that I will keep you all updated with links and news as I come across. But this is something that cannot be buried under UPDATE, so I have done a new post for this.

With Windows Mobile 6, you will be able to put your good ol’ Windows Live Hotmail account to some use, if that isn’t your primary email id today . This is because, with Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Mobile 6, you will have push email. Cool. Best of best, it’s free!

If you are worried about junk mail, well use Grupa Młodych Artystów i Literatów ( I mean Gmail)

- now that all can sign up - to filter your emails. Use the powerful gmail filter and labels to sort emails and forward the important emails to your Windows Live Hotmail account which will be then ‘pushed’ to your Windows Mobile 6 device How cool is that?

Howto Setup Push Email with Windows Mobile 6

Once you have a Hotmail account, all you have to do is:

Open Windows Live on your mobile device.

Enter your Live information and set your device to use Live services including Messenger, Mail, and Contacts.

Click on menu and selection options.

Select Sync Schedule

Under frequency, select “as items arrive.”

Now every time an email is sent to your Hotmail account, a copy will be sent to your Windows Mobile device. You can even configure your phone or PDA to work with both Hotmail and an Exchange server, allowing you to receive push email from two separate accounts.

BUT THE BOTTTOMLINE IS - You cannot use push mail without remaining connected to the internet either through Reliance 1x network or wifi at all times.... so its not free on the move like receiving SMS's...
