Problem of saving a number

Recommended Posts

Dear User of N191 samsung

N191 samsung is having unique problem is that while saving incoming number

from sms and voice call.

When you save Number from Incoming sms and voice call you require edit the call

to remove extra code of sdca and remaing.

Now this edit facility while saving number is not available, so we have to write

manually and reenter the number this is very problematic matter.

Hope they will solve this in new version number.

Thanks

I guess you are conveying something like this...

The incoming number is shown as 009198xxxxxxx (international format) and you want to put it like 98xxxxxxxx when saving the number to your phone book. If thats what you mean, then, it is not a problem as the charge for call/sms when you use the international format is the same as when you use the local format. Also, only if u save it in international number format, the name that you saved will be shown in the display when receiving call/sms. This happens for most GSM numbers. Happens for LG handsets too.

Well Arun,

What i have mostly noticed is that if u have a number saved in international format (009198****) and if ur phone doesn't have a STD facility, mostly u get error msgs frm Reliance that "this facility is not available on your phone".

To overcome this problem i've seen some ppl save all three types of a no. in one NAME Entry. Like saving the Local,National as well as International Format in one Entry itself!! such that u can call on local format, get an incoming call on national format and an sms in international format!!

That largely is tiresome to do. But its better than finding whose SMS it is!

I have used both the N191 & A563 handsets. I have set my numbers in international format (both mobile & landlines). I have STD & ISD enabled (who wouldnt considering activation is FREE!!!). Caller ID works great for me - for incoming calls & messages. This however doesnt work on LG handsets where you need to store 2 sets of numbers.

Occasionally I find that the number resolution in my call history/sms stored messages has screwed up, a quick reboot (switching the phone off then on) fixes that.

for some reason or the other sms name resolution doesnt work for rim phones when you have the data cable plugged in! i.e. when you are on the internet via the data cable - the sms inbox displays the RIM numbers not the persons name. when you disconnect it once again displays the persons name

the problem with the h/s is

>>>Very low ring tone volume... u cant hear it if u sitting in another room. or even if u sitting tight with in ur pocket.

>> another problem with the h/s is very small characters..ots very diffucult to see even with glasses..

Users N191 samsung

i faced a very peculiar problem with N191 samsung while saving number

from phone directory.

When you shift the number from one location to another in ur phone book.

and delete it from old location,

it doesnt saves teh number and says that Number aleady in memory.

now u cant save the number either doing a little change, e.g adding some extra character after the number.

if anybody faced such type of problem please let know ..

is this a s/w issue

Sun, do u realise, where u r posting wht?? :'( jus keep a check on that. and in case u think the post u made was not proper, feel free to use the delete button next to ur post and delete it. And in case u dont know wht to do, post the moderator and ask him to help u out!

As far as wht Capri mentioned in his last post, i saw this glitch in my sister's handset. Wht i did to avoid this was to change the entry no. of the stored mobile no. That solved the problem. But the problem is truly severe. Can someone tell me the latest s/w no. for Samsung N191?

Hi evbody !

I too faced exactly the same problem ... after changing the "group" of the number at the same location ( like from 'Fax' to 'Mobile' ), and then deleting it ! Now that no. cant be saved anywhere in the phonebook as it already exists at some mysterious location .... nor is the caller recognised. Cant even associate a Unique Ringtone to that no. ;)

I went to the Samsung Service Centre day b4 yesterday ... and the technican  there wasn't willing to accept that it is the fault of handset . He was hard pressed to format/reset the phonebook and gave me a print out of the phone book .. wanting me to manually enter the 250 nos again :confuse:

After spending nearly 3 hrs at the service centre .. trying to make him understand that THERE IS some fault with the ROM ( .. i.e. the memory hardware ) of the handset or some other circuitry ..... he just agreed to keep it for a couple of days ... to look into the problem and trying to UNDERSTAND it :confuse: !!

Now have to go today to get back the handset ...... lets see wht the techie guys says !! If anybody got the problem solved please reply ASAP .... my warranty expiring on 7th of this month! :(

Hi guys !!

Sorry for not updating u all for so long ! Got busy with some stuff. So the story continues ...

When i went to pick up the cell from the Service Centre, the technician (if at all he was one  !! ) with whom i discussed the whole problem didnt even bother to come out n talk to me ... even when i insisted ... maybe coz he was afraid that he wont be able to convince me of wht he did ...... as expected ... he just reformatted the phone book ... that means the entire memory of phone including ringtones n my inbox full with SMS ... and again loaded the old phone book entries back again. Though it is working .... but this isnt the complete eradication of the problem. If I wud repeat the same sequence of events .. the same problem wud crop up again !! I've accepted that nothing can be done other than just waiting for the right oppertunity to upgrade the cell (RIM ppl .. r u hearing ??? :quest: )

Also, one news .. which will shake u all ... the service centre ppl used 200 mins of Internet from my phone and over 30 mins of local calls :P n unknown mins of R-world (got to know that from the video links in favourites in R-world) ) ... f**k them!!! Talked with the manager there .. he's willing to pay ... I've to go to him with the bill in a couple of days .. so will again update u ppl if i get the refund :) Since I'm a DAPO customer... my bill shot up by 500 bucks coz of their stupidity ... my calls were charged @ Rs.1.9 instead of Rs.0.40 .. coz those a**h**es used my mins in Internet. Never expected this **** out of these ppl !

N bout updates to SCH N191 .. no idea guys !

Till then ! remain immersed in the joy of RIM !

Let me understand your problem correctly - you are trying to change the number type of a particular person from say HOME to MOBILE - when you delete the number from HOME & add it to MOBILE it says number already exists. I hope my understanding is correct.

It will say that because the number is written to your memory only when you SAVE a entry!

So your solution is fairly simple - delete the HOME number. SAVE - the entry. Open the entry again edit the MOBILE number. Save again. Viola you're done.

hi ppl,

i noticed that when ever some one calls the name of that person might not appear on the screen if the number calling is coming in a different format

for e.g: if i saved "rahul" as 989201234 and when rahul calls in and the number appears as 0091989201234, the name will not appear!!

But in nokia handsets this is not the case, they do appear even if the caling number appears in a diff format.

;) any solutions to this problem??

This is nt any recent bug, it was the same with these handsets earlier it self..

The only way out is save the no's in both format for that name

like in 009198.. format and 098...
