amtrag 20 Report post Posted July 12, 2007 I'm also going to upgrade and finally zereod-in on Intel Core 2 Duo over AMD. As per latest reviews, core 2 duo has better performance...just google to read some reviews (too lazy to search again and post the links here...) So my personal reco: Go for Core 2 Duo with 1GB or even upto 4GB RAM (667 MHz ones). HDD, OS etc of course depends on your own personal needs.

Please let me know the best configuration to go for. Some people suggested me for AMD and some for intel core 2 duo. i am confuse. I will always suggest AMD over intel as its a matter of 10K plus performance. 35K is damn good for PC. You can get I think even gaming PC at this price. With same 10K you can increase RAM and graphic card with memory which can increase performance. Remember reviews on web or on sites are usually with graphic cards with dedicated memory where as we talk about shared memory. Which affects performance very badly. My lappy is faster even after 2 years because it is having 512 MB dedicated memory. Had it been shared it would have been max 128 MB. Graphic board memories are faster than RAM and uses different channels for I/O. (I dont know much, lay men language) Edited July 12, 2007 by kshah
Dj 25 Report post Posted July 12, 2007 saidk, i would support kshah's view... i have an amd athalon 64bit based processor and an intel core duo based laptop. to me more than the speed of the porcessor, its the quantum of ram that makes more sense... its the graphic accelerator card that u use and the hard disk capacity with speed that matters. think of it as a bottle. the flow (speed) is directly propotional to its neck (ram) and not its belly (hdd and cpu) i learnt it the hard way that based on hype and our limited knowledge we always end up paying a hefty premium for "latest technology" whose potential we are barely able to exploit in our daily use. so first and foremost identify ur usage of this desktop pc and then based on this decision move forward with the configuration u want. as far as i can see our most essential usage is that of net, word or basic data processing and multimedia. amd works well and is a cheaper option to meet ur needs as well as an intel cpu but inturn u can push in more rom and a larger TFT screen or graphics card. like i have 1 gb of rams on both my systems and a 19" tft with a amd processor and 2x80 gb hdd with a dual layer dvd burner on the desktop and it works super fast... so rather spend on the goodies than buy a similar power wala intel cpu over an amd one...
